چکیده

Conclusions Decisions made during the design stage of product & process development profoundly affect product quality and process productivity. To aid in design decision making, a theoretical framework is advanced: the axiomatic approach to design. Axiomatic design consists of: 1) domains in the design world, 2) mapping between these domains, 3) characterization of a design by a vector in each domain, 4) decomposition of the characteristic vectors into hierarchies through a process of zigzagging between the domains, and 5) the design axioms, viz, Independence & Information Axioms. Statistical process control ( S E ) and other methodologies to improve quality are valid only when they are consistent with the Independence & Information Axioms. This paper presents several criteria that govern the design & manufacture of quality products, To be able to control the quality of products, a design must satisfy the Independence Axiom. Based on this axiom and some theorems, several design criteria are derived & discussed. These criteria provide the bounds for the validity of some of the SPC techniques being used. When there is more than one acceptable design of a product or process, the Information Axiom must be used to select the best design(s).

A Lean Manufacturing Roadmap for an Automotive Body Assembly Line within Axiomatic Design Framework

In this paper we are to present a practical application of Axiomatic Design (AD) methodology, as a roadmap to lean production, in redesigning a car body assembly line. Axiomatic Design theory provides a framework to simplify the whole problem. According to the AD principles, a hierarchical structure has been developed. The developed structure originated in lean manufacturing principles and exis...

A Novel Approach to Design of Truss-Beams for Natural Frequency

Here, we present a novel two-step approach for optimum design of cellular truss-beams based on desired natural frequencies. The proposed approach at- tempts to decrease the design complexities, based on the so called Axiomatic Design, before any eort to solve the physical problem itself. It also serves as a generic approach which nds its generality through dimensional analysis with its accuracy...

Triz and axiomatic design: a review of case-studies and a proposed synergistic use

With increasing competition in the market, expediting the problem solving process has become crucial in the industry. As such, a number of problem solving techniques have been devised to efficiently tackle problems of varying natures. Two such techniques, Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) and Axiomatic Design (AD), have been widely applied in a variety of industries and services, recen...
